Brussels / 1 & 2 February 2014

schedule

Matthias Klumpp

I am a Debian developer, AppStream & PackageKit developer, contributor to GNOME and KDE as well as some other Freedesktop projects. In 2012, I participated in the Google Summer of Code, working on package/application-management for Linux.

I have been working on improving the way we install software on Linux for a long time, starting with creating the Listaller project in 2008. I am a Debian developer and contributor to both KDE and GNOME as well as some Freedesktop projects. I am also a long-time PackageKit developer and helped with bringing PackageKit to Debian in the first place. In 2012 I participated in the Google Summer of Code for OpenSUSE where I ported the Ubuntu Software Center to OpenSUSE and Fedora and did a lot of important work on PackageKit to improve it's speed and extend it's API. Currently, I am also the maintainer of the AppStream specifications, which provide a cross-distro solution to create software centers (aka "AppStores"). Since 2013, I am developing the Tanglu Linux distribution together with others, which aims to be both a way for Debian developers to put new software to the test during freeze as well as for users to get an Ubuntu-like distribution with a generic, widely used foundation (systemd, possible Wayland in future).

In real life, I am a student of molecular biomedicine in Germany (which means I also write small tools for science from time to time).
