(re)Activating the Common Voice project at a local level

The story of (re)activating the Mozilla Commons Voice project in Tirana, Albania and some thoughts on how to do the same at your community.

Back when the Common Voice project was first announced, the local community in Tirana was very keen on exploring it. However, due to the fact that the project was still at it's early steps, the interest quickly diminished. But now that the project is way more advanced and accessible, we wanted to bring the interest back to life. After a spontaneous meetup two local Mozillians decided to organize 'Mozilla Common Voice' sessions in Tirana. We planned a calendar of recording and strings review sessions at the local hackerspace with the goal of growing the number of contributors and contributions to the Common Voice project. On this talk I will show what is learned, what went well, and what didn't in this series of events, and how you can start/restart your local Common Voice community.
