Living on the edge with CryptPad

Privacy, distributed computation, and architectures of resilience

CryptPad is a suite of private-by-design collaborative tools. It guarantees privacy to users by handling sensitive data client-side so the server only ever sees encrypted data that needs to be stored. The platform was designed to limit the risk of data leaks, but it's also extremely effective as a scaling strategy since the server's responsibilities are very limited.

In this presentation I'll share our team's experience in designing this unorthodox platform, scaling to support 60K more weekly active users during the pandemic, and how we plan for the uncertainty of the coming years.
