Niels is an experimental materials scientist, electron microscopist and python enthusiast. He obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the university of Antwerp in 2019, and is currently working as a post-doc at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Düsseldorf. During his Ph.D. on radiation effects of materials he became an avid user of the scientific python stack for processing his data. Gradually he became a small-time contributor to open-source python packages in the electron microscopy space, such as Hyperspy and Pyxem. Niels is a strong advocate for using open science, open data, open source, and open knowledge, and he is curious about all the tools that may align materials science an microscopy with this goal. He is transitioning from Mac OS to Arch (BTW) and believes NeoVim is the superior text editor. Edgy Linux youtube prophets are his guilty pleasure.:wq
