Alexander Rubin
Alexander is a Principal Security Engineer at AWS.
Alexander have over 18 years industry experience with the MySQL database. In 2006 he joined MySQL Inc, a company behind MySQL database, as consultant/architect, helping customers (from startups to big enterprises) to solve their MySQL related problems. After acquisitions Alexander have worked for Sun Microsystems and Oracle, then have joined Percona in 2013 as Principal consultant/Architect and started helping customers with other opensource databases (i.e. MongoDB) and big data systems (Hadoop/Spark). Alexander have been a speaker at MySQL User Conference (since 2008), Percona Live (since 2013) and Oracle World (since 2012), presenting on various MySQL topics (performance tuning, full text search, high availability, big data).
Alexander's interest in offensive security (white hat hacking) started with playing Capture the Flag (CTF) game. He have joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2020 as database engineer (working on RDS and Aurora MySQL). Since then Alexander switched to security engineering and built a new team (RDS/Aurora Red Team) which focuses on pentesting relational database services at AWS. Since 2022 he have been presenting on database security topics at opensource and security conferences.
