Ciarán has worked on free software legislative issues since 2003. In that year he moved to Brussels to work on the Software Patents Directive. After many years working on software licences, patent laws and copyright laws, he is now focused on the new batch of "market regulation" EU laws such as the AI Act and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). Ciarán is Senior Policy Advisor at OpenForum Europe.

A user of GNU/Linux since 1998, Ciarán worked as a software developer in Dublin before moving to Brussels.
