About David Berman
⚡ Electrician. 💻 Occasional Programmer. 🐱 Cat Companion.
An electrician from Iceland with a passion for making things work—whether that’s wiring a building, managing streetlights, or tinkering with code. While I wouldn't call myself a full-fledged programmer, I enjoy exploring how technology can solve real-world problems.
🌟 Current Project: Gungnir
Gungnir is an open-source proof-of-concept system for managing city streetlights.
Here’s the quick rundown:
- 💡 Scope: Currently controls ~10% of Reykjavik’s streetlights.
- ⚙️ Built With: Free and open-source tools.
- 🎯 Goal: Explore simple, cost-effective solutions for smarter city infrastructure.
It’s still an experimental project, but Gungnir reflects my focus on simplicity, practicality, and making the most of limited resources.
🥋 Outside of Work
When not busy with wires or code, you can find me:
- 🚴♂️ Cycling around Iceland’s stunning landscapes.
- 🥋 Practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
- 🐱 Hanging out with his cat, Fifi, who’s independent, opinionated, and occasionally bossy.
... Love learning, experimenting, and working on projects that make life a little easier or more fun for others.
